How can I get involved in Linking Generations?
Information Sessions are held in September at all our participating junior high and high schools and seniors’ care facilities. If you attend one of those schools or live in one of our care centers, you can apply to be part of Linking Generations.
What are the benefits of Linking Generations for the elderly?
As the aging population continues to rise rapidly, age segregation and isolation are increasing rapidly. Linking Generations addresses age segregation and mitigates social isolation that seniors may experience. Connecting with youth provides the elderly with a sense of contributing to society and to their communities, while providing much needed companionship.
What are the benefits for youth?
There are also huge benefits for the young people involved in the program. As the youth begin to understand the incredible impact they have on another person’s life simply by visiting with an elderly person ~ their confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills are enhanced. Our programs teach youth compassion, understanding, and respect for individuals from all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
What are Intergenerational Programs (IGPs)?
Intergenerational programs are programs, which focus on creating special connections between the elderly and youth. There are a number of IGPs operating in Alberta including our sister organization, LINKages, in Calgary. For more information about IGPs, please contact either Linking Generations or LINKages.
