Every relationship that transpires is unique, because the students and seniors have different interests and passions to share with one another. We provide the tools and support necessary to take seniors and students from ‘strangers to friends’ within a short timeframe.
At the end of our program year, verbal and written feedback is gathered and compiled from the seniors and students. Here is a small sample of their comments:
In a recent year-end feedback session one of the students commented:
“I have so much respect for my senior, she is always interested in what is happening in my life. I think of her just like a Grandma; I love my senior.” What a powerful statement and testament to the value of Intergenerational Programs such as Linking Generations.
Students:
- When I walk into the room, my senior’s smile takes over her face…
- Accept everybody, no matter what their age or culture.
- I have a better understanding and respect for seniors ~ I love visiting with my senior, she is awesome!
- Seniors may not have anyone ~ this is my chance to be that ‘someone special’ in their lives
- It has taught me to love and respect others (well, I did before), and it shows that it doesn’t matter what age you are.
- We have made many great memories with our senior, memories that will not be forgotten. We believe we are truly better people from our experience with our senior and Linking Generations.
- Our visits have given us a more positive outlook on life ~ attitude, and we are more appreciative of the little things in life.
- Different generations coming together to inspire smiles and provide insight into their own worlds. The essence of this program is truly noble.
- The most common comment from the students is: “We would like to visit with our seniors every week, we enjoy their company so much.”

A common saying is “It takes a community to raise a child.” Intergenerational programs such as Linking Generations not only provide critical mentored support for the students but also fill a gap for our valued past generation by providing an enhanced sense of purpose and overall well-being. This is a community program at its best ~ touching both the community leaders of yesterday and the leaders of tomorrow.
